The small Porsche SUV that goes on sale about 18 months will wear the Macan nameplate, the German automaker said on Thursday. Until now, the SUV project had been known by the code name Cajun, created from the concept of “Cayenne Junior.”
Porsche says Macan is “derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.”
The Porsche Macan will share a platform with the Audi Q5 and will be built at the Porsche plant in Leipzig, Germany, that now builds the Cayenne. Porsche is spending $650 million to expand the Leipzig plant, adding a body shop and a paint shop.

It still seems astonishing that car makers can match really quite powerful performance with almost parsimonious fuel consumption, but modern turbo diesels and high pressure fuel injection are delivering seemingly silly combinations of performance and economy. Like the 2.0 litre diesel Audi are now offering in the new A3. The new 2.0 litre diesel, which is now available on the new A3 and Sportback (with the A3 saloon to follow) – gets a very decent 181bhp and 280lb/ft of torque, which is enough to hit 62mph in just 7.3 seconds.
Subaru priced its rear-drive BRZ sports car
on Thursday, starting at $26,245, including $750 destination. The Limited version with an automatic transmission will sticker at $29,345. The base model, called Premium, comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, alloy pedal covers, HID headlights and a touch-screen GPS navigation system with a 6-inch LCD display.
